Term 3
McCains Vege Truck Visit
Last Friday a shiny red truck pulled up to visit us. It was the McCain Vege Promotion Truck. The Gardner Tony, taught us lots about how to care for our veges and encouraged us with our fabulous gardens. We were also facinated by the vintage truck and had it covered in little hand prints in no time!!
Syndicate Disco
We had a fantastic time last Wednesday evening. We were really pleased with the turnout of children and the support from the parents. We would like to say a big thank you to Deni aka "DJ Nic Nac" and Julia & Jason from Dwarf Star Entertainment for all their time, effort and equipment they donated.
What is it that makes that work?
Syndicate 3 began the term with a technology challenge. On limited supplies and time, students worked on designing and making a wet weather protector to kick off our term of innovation. Classes assembled in our courtyard for an awesome show to display their innovative ideas.
Pekerau Sports Exchange
Thursday 1 July, Syndicate 3 participated in a sports exchange with Pekerau Primary School. Students played Rugby and Netball, the sun came out and a great time was had by all.

Syndicate 3 has now joined the McCain School Veggie Patches program. This means we are collecting bar codes from McCain frozen vegetable and potato range packets. The bar codes give us points that will enable us to purchase tools and other products that we need for our vegetable gardens. You can follow our progress by going to http://mccainveggiepatches.com/content/home.aspx
NZGardener - Prize
The following article appeared in the May issue of the NZ Gardener Magazine and then last week, Syndicate 3 received a $300 gardening pack of McGregor tools. This has arrived just in time as the vegetable garden has been extended and the Syndicate 3 classes now each have their own plot of land to work with.

Term 2
Wow...what an exciting start to Term 2!
Students arrived on Monday morning to find our shade tree in the courtyard cordoned off and Suneil looking a little too enthusiastic with a chainsaw in his hands. Our new Syndicate Leader, Helen Garland and Mr Duncan managed to stop Suneil from cutting down the shade tree but Suneil had other plans. He was going to do some serious pruning and headed to the chestnut tree on the corner of the netball court! Syndicate 3 students raced to the chestnut tree to prevent any destruction, well done team!
Our big question this term: Will the cycle of life continue forever?
Term 1 Showcase
This was held on Tuesday 30 March. The students had a very busy day that started with a trip to the Otawahao Marae where the students learnt about protocol on the marae and the history and meaning of the carvings and tekoteko in the whare. This was followed by a concert in the Syndicate courtyard, the making of salad sandwiches and then sharing of learning in the classrooms. For more photos go to the Room 6 page where they have been saved under Art Work.
Resene Paints Winner
Many students took part and entered in the Resene Paints colouring competition in an effort to win a hot air balloon ride in the Balloons over Waikato. Maya Brown from Room 6 came runner up in her age division and won a new school bag among other things.
Update from the Courtyard
In Term 4 of last year all Syndicate 3 students traveled to Hamilton Ceramics to learn about the process involved to design and fire a ceramic tile. The tiles they made are now on display in the courtyard and look fantastic. A big thank you to the 2009 Syndicate 3 cohort.
Gardening News
This week we entered our garden in the NZ Gardener Magazine competition 'School of the month' and as a result will be featured in the May Issue.
Syndicate 3 Swimming Sports
On Thursday 11 March, we had our swimming sports, what a great day it was. It was wonderful to have so many supporters there, and a special thanks to the parents who helped run it. Most importantly was the great attitude that all competitors showed, results will be posted as soon as they come to hand.

And they're off!
Syndicate Trip
Wednesday 24 February all of Syndicate 3 visited the Te Awamutu Walk of Fame and then did a treasure hunt along Pioneer Walk which runs along the bank of the Maungaohoi Stream and through Memorial Park. A big thankyou to the team of parents who came along and made this trip possible.
Maths - Syndicate 3 Style
Students are currently learning how to gather data on a tally chart and then how to represent this information on a bar graph.
Thursday 11 February students recorded information about our vegetable garden before we began harvesting. This information we can use later in the year when it is time to sow the garden for next year's summer harvest.
Inquiry Learning, Term 1, 2010
'Heroes'
Our learners were hooked in today with a story from Whaea Erin about Tane and the three baskets of knowledge. Below, students from Rooms 6 and 16 enjoyed their storytelling down in the shade of the gully.
Prize Winning Potatoes
On Friday 5 February, Te Awamutu Dahlia Circle held their annual show at the Te Awamutu Bowling Club. As well as a spectacular show of dahlias they also ran a vegetable competition for keen gardeners in the area. Syndicate 3 students entered a range of vegetables from our school vegetable garden and took pride in receiving 1st place for their potatoes and 2nd place for their tomatoes.
Pictured below Christopher Packwood, Sam Patel and Mackenzie Margetts accept on behalf of all Syndicate 3 children their prize from organiser Margaret Yates.
