Our Fizz and Foam Experiment!!

Hello,

Well we are half way  into Term 3 now.  We have just had the cross country- Well done to all of the children, they worked hard and we all had a great day!

Just a quick update to let you know what Room 8 is busy doing this term....

This term the school wide inquiry is Innovation;  in our classroom I have introduced some simple experiments to show the children What, How and Why things change when mixed together.

The children in Room 8 have made their own experiment books to bring home at the end of term-so be warned of potential fizzing, explosions and oobleck mess in the next holidays!!

We are now moving into our 'Taking Action' part of our Inquiry. In Room 8 we are investigating bubble mix and their wands. The class will come up with a wish list of what their ideal bubble mix and wand will do and be like; we will test some bought brands and then through investigation of different "recipes" of bubble mix, we will come up with Room 8's own  Bubble Mix. They will also investigate different wand shapes, and materials they are made from, to come up with their own wand. The children will learn how to work through an investigation process and then be innovative with their ideas and problem solving skills to come up with their ideal bubble mix and wand.

Next time you are in the class, check out our Inquiry wall.

Maths- We have completed our Math-a Thon, thank you all for your support with this. The children can  be very pleased with their results. At the start of the term we did some work on measurement and now we are back to number knowledge, place value and basic facts.

In Literacy, we are continuing with our reading (please try and read with your child most nights it really does make a difference), handwriting, Word power (spelling), Wordworks  and writing (we have done a bit of instructional/procedural writing so far in relation  to writing up our experiments).

New to the classroom this term is a Reading Rocket on the back wall, the children have made their own 'button' and there is one that shows where they started the year and one that moves up the rocket as they progress through the colours/levels. Most children are making terrific progress with their reading and you can see that reading is encouraged at home. Thank you.

I always try to encourage the children to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and always on the look out for new and exciting things to try; so writing, art, and general topics may change depending on where the children take it with their own thoughts and ideas.

So another full on term ahead-please make sure everyone has heaps of sleep and try to keep those winter bugs at bay.

Please feel free to call in and visit anytime either to chat with me or to admire all the great work happening in Room 8.
